Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan
The work, created by the sculptor Francesco Ciusa, is in white marble supported by a basalt pedestal and rests on a square granite base. The sculpture represents suffering and despair, both of them visible on the face of the male figure as well as that of the woman. At the request of the then current government, during the Fascist period, a marble element was added on top of the monument to represent winged victory. The monument includes a marble slab bearing the dedication “Iglesias to the casualties of all wars”.
